Like ER on acid!!! Lars Von Trier's epic film series The Kingdom is a masterwork of surreal proportions. The film details the bizarre goings-on in a labyrinthine hospital in Copenhagen called 'The Kingdom'. Malpractice suits abound, there are ghosts in the elevators, people making love in the dream labs and a pair of holy fools washing dishes in the basement. The films are toned a beautiful light sepia (an effect von Trier achieved by filming in 16mm, transferring to video, filming on 16mm, and finally transaferring to 35mm) and contain some stunning free-floating camera-work, which combine to create an immersive, dreamlike filmic experience
